Marijuana Chemical May Fight Brain Cancer

Active Component In Marijuana Targets Aggressive Brain Cancer Cells, Study Says

By Kelli Miller Stacy

WebMD Health News Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD

April 1, 2009 — The active chemical in marijuana promotes the death of brain cancer cells by essentially helping them feed upon themselves, researchers in Spain report.

Guillermo Velasco and colleagues at Complutense University in Spain have found that the active ingredient in marijuana, THC, causes brain cancer cells to undergo a process called autophagy. Autophagy is the breakdown of a cell that occurs when the cell essentially self-digests.

The team discovered that cannabinoids such as THC had anticancer effects in mice with human brain cancer cells and people with brain tumors. When mice with the human brain cancer cells received the THC, the tumor growth shrank.

Two patients enrolled in a clinical trial received THC directly to the brain as an experimental treatment for recurrent glioblastoma multiforme, a highly aggressive brain tumor. Biopsies taken before and after treatment helped track their progress. After receiving the THC, there was evidence of increased autophagy activity.

The findings appear in the April 1 issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The patients did not have any toxic effects from the treatment. Previous studies of THC for the treatment of cancer have also found the therapy to be well tolerated, according to background information in journal article.

Study authors say their findings could lead to new strategies for preventing tumor growth.

Marijuana Ramble: 25 Million Strong

Posted by R E Casper on March 27, 2009

25millionstrong

25 Million people in our country smoke Marijuana and that is a underestimate. I guarantee many of you reading this do not realize how many people you know smoke, but don’t tell. Even individuals you thought you knew well. The stereotype of lazy pot smoker is hand in hand with drunken maniac. Its a select few that ruin the image of the whole.

If American government wants to sheepishly take the easy way out and continue to be PC then they are the ones with pie on their face, the 25 Million + Americans will continue to smoke no matter the rulings. But we could easily eleviate the issues if our country would grow a pair.

Simply because something is illegal does not mean people will stop doing it. Its a dead kicked horse but the alcohol prohibition subject comes to mind. The repercussions on a baseless law are what is so very detrimental. It’s not dangerous to smoke that is fact, its not addictive that is fact, its medically beneficial that is fact, its economically boosting that is fact….

And as long as its illegal and the only ones to profit are the underground black market sellers, then as people keep doing it, cartels continue to grow. As cartels continue to grow then crime continues to rise. And as crime continues to rise our already faltering, shorthanded legal officials will continue to fight a winless war, spending 10s of Billions of dollars in doing it, all while taking away the necessary force to investigate and bring to justice those that actually deserve it. If most people could see the endless hallways of unsolved crimes. You would realize how shorthanded our “justice officials” are. It really isn’t hard to “get away with [fill in the blank here].”

CSI and Law & Order are fake, they are Hollywood farcities. There aren’t enough cops and “detectives” to go around. Like any television show, you see the highlights. For every crime solved, hundreds go unsolved. And even if they are solved, where do you put them? In an over crowded prison system that is full of twenty somethings on their third strike for possession. Not for coke or heroine but more than 60-70% of the time its for simply MARIJUANA only. All the while our government spends more on each one of these prisoners annually, than the majority of Americas make that same year.

Its sickening to me that there are those out there that still believe the parody that is Reefer Madness. Its similar to that older couple at a comedy show that sit silently because they just do not “get it.” I must say it truly is amazing that individuals think its ok to keep cigarettes and alcohol legal while criminalizing marijuana. But I guess just like most brainwashed individuals they lap up mis-information and stereotypes like sponges. I love the fact that when some one brings up the notion of a marijuana smoker to one of these people, the first thing they think of is a lazy pot head melting into the coach like one of those propaganda riddled “Above the Influence” commercials. Whats even more hilarious is the moments in which you catch them saying this while you watch them polish off there 4th cup of wine. Hypocracy has run amuke in this country and even ignorant statements recently by President Obama fall on deaf ears. By the way I support Obama, but a sane man must never follow blindly. No matter how supportive you are of the leader. Governments should always be questioned.

America for once has “began” to wake up or at least one eye has cracked. Let’s bring our senses back in front of us. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence is written on Hemp (Marijuana) and large percentages of crops were required by law to be hemp/marijuana. How about we quit calling our founding fathers criminals and help our country flourish.

Rabid Media Gone Astray

Posted by R E Casper on March 5, 2009

media_monkeys

The media is running away with our economy. Yes I said it, more should. I am not pointing the finger, at least not entirely, at any particular politician, be it democrat or republican. Admittedly I will say that neither have helped things much and the later being even less help. Nothing like 8 years of torment, wars and out and out lying to the public to induce a decade of depression and drought. I will add though at least the prior is trying.

However, that said, I must tip my hat to the media. You have officially, single handedly instilled fear into the eyes of America. Yes things are bad and you should report the bad, however one must look at the key points there in. First and foremost, the more gloom and doom that is spread, the more fear that rises within the guts of the everyday American public, the worse things get. This fear enlightens the public to do the one thing they can think of to save themselves. Horde what they have! Hey its only human to think that way and numero uno is the priority, don’t a single one of you try and think otherwise, cause deep down its you in this world.

So people spend less, pull money from the banks, cash in their stocks, stop buying Cappuccinos and they pull back on purchasing bogus rags that soak up more water than an elephant, perky bras and whatever other guilty pleasures and material impulse buys that get them through the day. There-in creating one proven result, economical downturn. So I say again, I tip my hat to you media pigs. You are to be blamed for a great portion of the problems with our country these last few years. More so in the last few months.

You have no scruples in regards to what you spread, what out of context “direct quotes” you glorify across the screen. You grab one single sound bite, and run with it like a crack head catching his aid check on the first of the month. Straight to the crack house you take this country. It doesn’t matter what the actual meaning said individual was attempting to portray and express to the people. No, as long as you can pull from this word to that word and it gets the meaning across how you see fit, “Gloom and doom,” then thats okay by you. Hell I understand, it draws the ratings, why not focus on the negative. Drugs, sex and violence sells, right? The more frightful people are, the gloomier the days means the more viewers tuning in to see what new horrible situation poses a threat to the people this morning. Dow Jones dropped, Stimulus Bill will ruin us all, Olympic hero tokes a bong hit, Rush Limbaugh eats a baby… You don’t hear anything about heroes anymore. Just negative negative negative… Hell our media would rather crucify our heroes instead.

What happened to the good things, what happened to spreading positive vibes. Has it become such a cliche that only pot heads are the laid back, happy, love the world types. What makes an tree hugger bad, exactly? Is it that they want to save natural giants that have lived beyond 5 of our family generations? That they understand, less trees equal less air? Who knows but, our media and our society has connected “tree hugger” with bad, naive, dumb, annoying people. Its absurd. And when an individual says to you, “Live free man, relax, chill out enjoy life” why is it that the first thing that runs through you mind is “This guy is or has been high often.” Is loving life and enjoying what we have that bad.? Anyway…

I will have to touch on this point more in depth in time. But I have begun, as usual, to stray. Back to my point.

Our media has been the front runner on spreading the hell fire and brimstone. Just turn on CNBC, Fox News, MSNBC…. It’s recession recession recession…. I’m not saying its not happening, I am just saying look at the companies going under and their history. GM has been in shambles since the day gas went to 2-3+ dollars a gallon. Why? Because Japan and China know how to make cars that are hella great on mileage, low cost and fairly stable. Plus it costs them to much because of the way they manufacture. So it was inevitable, How bout the banking industry? They are corporations ran by ritualistic manipulative greedy bastards. They could give two shits if you default on your loans or credit cards. They just means they can take you to court and own your life and sell you children. They get theirs in the end anyway, what do they care. But as history has shown once the fear is put in the nation and the gloom is spread mass panic ensues and leave only rubble behind.

So to bring a long blamble to an end, for the love of god media. Focus on the positive, and stop crucifying anyone you can. Shit as much as I find octomom to be a imbecile and out right lunatic, do I really give a shit she popped out more kids than Michael Jacksons had surgery? At least she will get hella returns on her taxes. I don’t need to hear about it every day. Furthermore stop bashing this economic crisis news into the stone of the walls. We get it, things are bad. We see it every day. Its a rough and tumble world and we are just along for the ride. But how bout we give the public a silver lining to focus on and a reason to actually purchase that Nutterbutter or splurge on a new 42” television, porn is better in HD anyway. When the population spends the economy sings. Allow it to. Thats all I ask.

Michael Phelps, he is normal after all

Posted by R E Casper on February 3, 2009

phelps-bong

I guess the aura has been dispersed. The man that was bigger than life, more than human, beyond reality has been pulled back down to level.

He has been Busted with Marijuana. A picture of him lip-locking with the devil. What has the world come to when the people we are supposed to look up to turn out to be none other than… well people. He was supposed to be a god. A the perfect role model. What happened, why would he indulge in such a travesty of an action. He is better than that. I’m so disappointed

I mean, he is 23 years old, he just won 8 gold medals and all of a sudden he wants to be a young adult. He wants to succumb to human nature. He decided to corrupt himself by doing something that a half of the ridiculous American population have done. How uncouth …

Well to be frank, he is actually in the off season, he just did something that no other human being has ever done, in the history of athletic sports. He applied for the maximum number of events an individual is allowed to enter for an Olympics season and against the odds….won all of them. Let him fucking live a little. He is 23 years old. Where does America get off judging someone who has done something that no human before them have ever even imagined to have done. It does not seem that Marijuana has affected his training regiment, his talents, his utter inhuman skill. It it damn sure doesn’t enhance skill, ha.

The primary thing here is the fact that America needs to get over its delusion that only jobless, slobby, ignorant, no future having losers are the only ones that enjoy to partake in the pipe sometimes. People from all walks of life enjoy the natural herb and that’s the facts and we must remember this. Leave him alone America, because you damn well know that either you have partaken, are partaking or love someone who partakes regularly. Let humans enjoy their vices, especially the safe ones.

One interesting note is that Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says he will pursue charges against Phelps for the picture and “partial confession.” Which in South Carolina, possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail or a $570 fine, plus court costs.

The best part is it seems he is the only one in the nation that wants to crucify Phelps for something more than half the population enjoys. The University of Carolina and the Columbia South Carolina Police department made a statement acknowledging that they will not be charges Phelps with something as petty as Marijuana charges. Hell even his sponsors are still backing him, even after such an “EVIL” thing.

So Leon, get the rod out of your ass and relax. Quit being a fucking RoboCop and be human. Its a damn Bong, you ever done anything out of the realm of legal? Be it even a parking ticket? Get over yourself, hell it sounds to me that Richland County may be suffering from the same economical crisis that every county which enforces marijuana possession charges with such ruthless nature suffers. You and all the other counties of the like try and build your revenue with pointless possession charges. What’s better is you said yourself its an easy ~$500. Way to fucking go. That will teach him. Well maybe not, he is human and well, it is Marijuana. But look on the bright side, that should keep your precinct well supplied in donuts for many weeks to come. Hope you have enough coffee. Oh my god he made a donut joke about the cops, how cliché.

Its nothing personal Richland county, but the fact that Marijuana Prohibition is still going on is ridiculous… What’s even more irritating is the fact that while these laws are enforced, I can go out and purchase a mini gun, hell I can even a go out and pick up my own personal flamethrower. Even more is the fact I can build my own home made bomb with legally purchased materials, Tannerite or Thermite.

Leave it to America to keep a bottle of Jack Daniels in one hand, an AK47 in the other with a foot resting on a landmine. All this while banning the use of a natural herb that carries medicinal, inspirational, and relaxing attributes and a countless number of other practical uses. GO AMERICA!!!

You know, what’s good enough for the king of the Olympics is good enough for us.

Have you had your Weedies today?

Where the Buffalo Roam

Posted by R E Casper on January 29, 2009

I had the honor of watching Where the Buffalo Roam again the other evening. To anyone that has not seen this movie and has a twinge of Hunter S. Thompson fandom in their hearts, I sincerely recommend this grand classic. Bill Murray as Hunter S. Thompson does a superior job of emulating Hunter’s mannerisms, his anti-authority iconoclasm, hell he even looks like him.

Now mind you, I am by no means devaluing the epic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Hunter has become something of Pop legend and rightfully so. Depp truly bought the ticket and did he ever take the ride.

So in my quick quip for the evening, go to you favorite movie download page or if you still carry out the archaic rental habit, please grab a copy of Where the Buffalo Roam and take a look at an 80s Classic.

On a side note there is a scene in which his attorney Dr. Gonzo (as known by those transitioning from Fear and Loathing) goes to court defending a group of kids busted for marijuana possession. The judge proceeds to sentence them to ridiculous duration of prison time. One in particular was a first time charge, and a sentence of 5 years to life for possession. Bite you tongue as you state that this is fiction. Remember it wasn’t that long ago that this type of sentence was the norm.

Please also take into consideration how many young lives were wasted due to this. And how many are being wasted even today as our government and laws struggle to keep up with sanity. Catch the plane boys, its on the runway and our government hasn’t even reached the gates.
